Need Renters Insurance??

Spend a little. Protect a lot.
Your affiliation with the Chico State Alumni Association may qualify you for savings on Renters Insurance**. Think you don’t need it? Think again. Got a laptop? An iPod? Flat-screen TV? Digital camera? Imagine those being stolen or damaged—in your home or in your car. That’s a lot of money out the window.

What exactly is Renters Insurance?
Insurance is not just for homeowners but also for people who rent. Renters Insurance protects the possessions that matter to you from theft, fire and some types of water damage. Additionally, this coverage is in effect anywhere you go.

Why do I need it? I don’t have a lot of stuff.
First of all, your stuff may be worth more than you think and you work really hard for everything that you own. Have you recently invested in a new laptop, flat screen, 10 mega pixel camera or mountain bike with disc brakes? And what about everything else—furniture, appliances, clothing? Your possessions could easily add up to more than $10,000! If you’re careful enough to save for these items, don’t risk a financial setback replacing them. And remember, while your landlord likely has insurance to protect his or her building, that policy will not protect you. Similarly, your parents’ homeowners policy may have covered your belongings in the college dorm, but it no longer applies when you move out on your own.

So, what are you waiting for? Learn more today about renters insurance from Liberty Mutual. Your stuff is worth it.

To the extent permitted by law, applicants are individually underwritten; not all applicants may qualify. If you have questions, please consult a Liberty sales representative.

What time does the ceremony start and how early can I get there?
The ceremony starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. Gates open at 7:30 a.m. It is recommended to arrive early for the best seating.

Do I need tickets for the ceremony?
There is no reserved seating and you do not need tickets for the ceremony. Seating is first come, first served. There is no saving of seats.

Where is the ceremony?
The ceremony is held in University Stadium on the west section of campus found on the map provided here (see map).

Will the ceremony be held if there is rain?
The ceremony will be held rain or shine. Individual names may not be read depending on the severity of the weather. Umbrellas will be allowed in the stadium in the case of rain.

Is food available for purchase at the stadium?
There is no food available for purchase at the stadium. Water will be available for sale, sponsored by the Chico Chapter Alumni Association, which will help sponsor scholarships.

How long is the ceremony?
The ceremony is approximately two – two and a half hours.

Are there restrooms available at the stadium?
There are restrooms available in Acker and Shurmer Gyms, under the bleachers on the east side of the stadium, and portable units available in the south-east and south-west side of the stadium.

Where should I park?
There are several parking lots available on campus and street parking is also available (see map). Please note, no regular parking is available in the Stadium and Health Center lots to the north and east of the stadium – these are reserved for handicapped/elderly parking. No RV’s or campers are allowed in any university parking area. There will be a shuttle available with pick-up stations located at the university parking structure and parking lots located on 2nd street between Normal Ave. and Hazel St. The shuttle will also be available after the ceremony.

Where do I park/sit if I have a handicapped/elderly person with me?
There are no tickets required for sitting in the special seating area for disabled and the elderly, which are located on either side of the stadium. It is first come first serve as are the regular seats in the stadium. Only one guest may accompany the elderly or disabled person in the special seating area. Parking for disabled/elderly will again be in the Health Center and University Stadium parking lots next to the stadium. A placard is fine – or obvious elderly occupants will enable parking in that area. There will be a shuttle available with pick-up stations located at the university parking structure and parking lots located on 2nd street between Normal Ave. and Hazel St. The shuttle will also be available after the ceremony.

Do you have wheelchairs available?
There are no wheelchairs available for the handicapped or elderly. You might consider renting one for the day if you think you might need one.

It is recommended to bring sunscreen and a hat. Please do not bring folding chairs, umbrellas or coolers. Please do not bring confetti to throw.

What do I do if someone in my party becomes ill or need assistance during the ceremony?
There is an ambulance located at the southeast end of the stadium, Acker and Shurmer Gyms. There are also university police inside the stadium and two emergency medical technicians will be patrolling the stadium on bicycles. In the event of an emergency, please contact university police, medical personnel, or any personnel in orange vests.

What is available for purchase at the ceremony?
You may purchase DVD’s (pre-order them at the ceremony), flowers, including leis, and bottled water at the ceremony. The bottled water is $2.00 and the proceeds benefit the Alumni Association’s Chico Chapter scholarship program.

Can I get up close to take a photo when my student walks across the stage?
Due to safety reasons, you may not enter the area where the students are seated. A professional photographer will photograph each student before they walk on the stage, and again, as they shake the hand of their dean. Photo proofs will be mailed to you within three weeks of the ceremony. You may pre-register for the photographs at the Commencement websit

Where does my student go to line up for the ceremony?
Your student should be in the field on the northwest side of the stadium (by the railroad tracks, in between University Stadium and Nettleton Stadium) by 8:00 a.m. There will be signs directing your student to his/her college line up area. Your student should find the appropriate area, go to the college tabling area, and pick up his/her name card and Commencement program. Further directions will come from the Faculty Marshals on site. All students should sit with their own college and not with their friends graduating from other colleges (we videotape and photograph the ceremonies and want the students to be with their own colleges)

What if my student arrives late, after the ceremony has already started?
If they arrive as the graduates are going up to the stage to have their names read, then they only need to enter at the back, find one of the faculty marshals and they will be directed to where they can seat themselves. Certainly they will not be able to sit where they might want to, but they can sit at the back of the college they belong to and proceed up to receive their parchment.

Where do we get the cap and gown?
You rent the cap, gown, tassel and stole (you get to keep the cap, tassel and stole) at the A.S. Bookstore, located in the Bell Memorial Union (see map). Bookstore hours the weekend of Commencement are:
Friday, May 22: 7:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday, May 23 & 24: 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
It is not necessary to reserve the cap and gown ahead of time. The price is $43.95 + tax. Return the gown to the bookstore immediately following the ceremony. If you do not return the gown, you will be billed an additional $75.00 + tax.

Is there anything special after the ceremony for parents and students?
California State University, Chico Associated Students Dining Services offers a Graduation Brunch Buffet. Please visit the Commencement website for more information.

When will my student receive his/her diploma?
Following a favorable review and final evaluation of your student’s records, the diploma will be mailed to the address on file in the Registration and Records Office approximately 8-12 weeks following the ceremony.

Will there be programs available?
Each student receives a Commencement program that lists the order of the ceremony and the names of the students who have filed for graduation prior to the publication deadline. Due to the expense of printing the full program, only day programs listing the order of the ceremony will be given out at the gates to the approximately 8,000 guests attending each ceremony.
